Group Sessions are taught by experienced tutors who have been with us at least 2 years and have completed our rigorous Test Prep Instruction Course. Individual (1-to-1) sessions are instructed by graduate students with extensive standardized testing experience.

We find great success with students who consider themselves bad test-takers, and have not traditionally done well on standardized tests. Our methods also work well for students who are given testing accommodations for ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences.

Academy Tutors offers online curriculum centered on practice tests and focused content exercises to increase scores without wasted effort. We partner with two different curriculum providers to better accommodate students' objectives as well as parents' budgets.

About Us

Hello!

I'm John, the founder of Academy Tutors. I've been tutoring since 2006, with a primary focus on SAT test preparation. My background includes a BA in Cognitive Science from Northwestern University, MA in Social Sciences from University of Chicago, plus a California teaching credential in Exam Mathematics from NDNU.
My background in Cognitive and Social Sciences plays an important part in my ability to connect with students and understand their frustrations with the test. Over the years, I've developed specific strategies for different types of learners and test takers.

FLEXIBLE COURSES FOR BUSY LEARNERS

Our courses are designed to fit with busy schedules and unpredictable lives of college-bound teenagers. Drop into our regularly scheduled group sessions when time allows. Add individual sessions as needed to cover challenging content.

Group Strategy Sessions

Regularly scheduled weekly sessions cover strategies for both sections of the SAT test. We offer courses in the evenings and on weekends, with additional sessions added as test dates approach.

Missed a concept in Algebra? Not quite sure what a gerund is? Meet with one of our expert tutors for a focused content lesson that includes extra practice on simulated test questions.

Flexible and Adaptive Curriculum

We partner with Test Innovators to provide the best curriculum for test takers, focused on practice tests and content-specific exercises. Students pursue the curriculum at their own pace. Instructors go over questions missed by students in the sessions.
